Hey interior designer! Whether you’ve signed on with Hello June for your new website (we’re experts in web design for interior designers!), another studio, or going the DIY route, here’s our best advice on how to prep your photos for your new interior designer website.
1. Plan your photoshoot well!
Getting proper photos starts before you shoot with your photographer. You’ll need three types of photos:
2. Add human elements to your lifestyle photography.
During your brand shoot, tell your photographer you want to feature as many human elements in the photos as possible. A styled space is beautiful, but it will feel even more connected to your craft if it features you or a team member! Some interior design branding shoot shot list ideas:
3. Get a good mix of both vertical and horizontal images. Many interior photographers will shoot mostly vertical images (good for your mobile site), and we’ll need many stunning horizontal images (for your desktop site).
4. Ensure that you have a mix of full rooms and detail shots. Have your photographer get up close and personal with texture, patterns, lighting fixtures, and styled areas of your clients’ homes.
After Your Shoot
1. Follow the instructions from your website host.
Here at Hello June, we use Showit for our interior designers’ websites. These are Showit’s recommended photo prep guidelines.
2. Properly name your images for optimal SEO.
Name your images the following: “business name here description of what the photo shows.” We recommend naming them prior to uploading to your website host.
This “image title” helps search engines understand the content of the images, which can increase visibility in search results.
3. Upload higher-resolution images for use in larger places on your interior designer website, like large headers or galleries with large displays. Ensure that your photos are not too large in file size, with 2MB as a recommended size. Photos that are too large can slow down your site (impacting your SEO), but photos that are too small can render blurry on your site.
